![]() What makes Cell work is King’s characterisation. The Pulse also appears to kick in a part of the brain that’s never been used before as the ‘phoners’ are telepathic and can levitate. The only thing that remains is a sort of primitive consciousness causing people to act like cave-people. ![]() The plot of Cell is very original – a signal gets sets to every cell-phone in the world and the people who overhear it have their minds wiped sort of like a computer’s hard-drive being wiped. Zombies are reanimated corpses and the people who get blasted by The Pulse never died, they just reverted to a sort of primitive state. ![]() If you want to be pedantic it’s not a zombie novel at all. ![]() However, labelling Cell as a zombie novel doesn’t quite do it justice. He flees the devastation of explosive, burning Boston, desperate to reach his son before his son switches on his little red mobile phone…Ĭell is King’s unique twist on that staple of the horror genre – zombies.
